Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE Eau de Parfum

This is the news and the launch that has completely made my week and is responsible for all the happy tweetings of the last 24 hours. Stella McCartney has just launched her newest fragrance, L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE and I got to meet her to find out all about it! Yay!
Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE Eau de Parfum
It is an absolutely gorgeous scent that plays on the beautiful contrasts of dark and light, masculine and feminine. The nose behind L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE, Alberto Morillas, said that Stella knows exactly what she wants and that the fragrance is like an English garden in spring, yet deep, woody and very sexy. Now that is my kind of English garden!
Stella herself was, as we all expected, really cool in an edgy, undone glam kind of way. I got this quick shot of her – everyone wanted her boots:

She is the kind of cool that you just want to be. She is funny without being try-hard and seems very honest and real. I asked her what her favourite every day smells were and there were no cliches coming back – you know … fresh laundry and cut grass and all that jazz! No not at all! Stella said she loves the smell of her kids’ breath and she’s said “I’m always like breathe on my nose”!! As a mum, I  absolutely love that!!

But back to L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE. Stella explained that her inspiration very much references childhood and the idea of a girl becoming a woman and where she was at that point in her life.
It is this rare life moment that is reflected in her choice of the delicate yet earthy flower, Lily of the Valley. It comes out for a fleeting moment once a year and then is gone again. It is very delicate yet very specific. She actually chose this special flower for her wedding bouquet.

Stella loves the challenge of the fact that Lily of the Valley is not at all fashionable in fragrance right now – the challenge to revive something and breathe new life into it has really motivated her.

She wanted the capture the dew and the breeze of Lily of the Valley and the fragility and femininity of it all. But she didn’t want it to become too feminine to point where it becomes “naff” as she so pertinently put it! She let the interesting visual of the flower guide her – the soft intricate petals, the clean leaves and then the earthy dark roots.
Stella says she can’t do feminine without the masculine, and so with Lily of the Valley come the deeper, darker notes of moss, black truffle, amber and dry white woods. Oooh I do love the dirty, earthy side of a fragrance!
Alberto Morillas
The inclusion of truffle is really interesting because, like the Lily of the Valley, it grows only fleetingly, but at a completely different time of the year – so they couldn’t be more opposite really. Morillas said it is a very complicated task to make these two balance, but it has been achieved beautifully.
The piece from her fashion collections that most reflects the essence of L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE? This, from the Stella McCartney Spring Summer 2013 collection:

As you can probably tell from all this chat and waffle, I am completely taken with the whole thing! This certainly helped!

I literally nearly died when I saw my name on the bottle frame, and being a bit of a soppy old fool, I felt really rather emoshe too! I hear-by name L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE my happy perfume! It really doesn’t get much better than that!
Anyway, enough enough. You’ll be glad to know that the Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y ABSOLUTE Eau de Parfum is available now in Selfridges and online and will go nationwide at the end of February 2013. It is £65 for 50ml.

Regular L.I.L.Y. is my favourite everyday perfume; I think it is just beautiful. Even when I smell it on clothes I’ve taken off, it makes me smile (that sounds a bit weird but you know what I mean).

I cannot wait to sample this one!
