UPDATE 2023: Now Discontinued.

Rather excitingly, I have been road testing The Ordinary Coverage Foundation and the good news is, I love it!! Although it’s about a richly pigmented, high coverage finish, it’s extremely natural looking and really allowed the skin to glow. Here’s the low down with before and after photos.

There is huge hype about this new range of foundations from Deciem’s The Ordinary skincare brand. The range is called The Ordinary Colours and  promises to be an evolving one so I am very excited about what else they have in store for us. Here’s a little recap about the new makeup.

There are two formulations to choose from – Coverage Foundation and Serum Foundation. I have tried both and loved both, so it’s great news for those beauty junkies looking for high performance complexion products at an extremely affordable price.

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation Features

  • Richly pigmented formulation
  • High-coverage finish
  • Pigments are suspended in a unique spreadability system
  • Delivers even coverage and ultimate skin naturalness
  • Provides long-lasting, durable wear
  • Avoids collecting in fine lines
  • Unique suspension system allows shades to look so natural that three colours or more will suit most skin tones
  • SPF15 protection achieved with Titanium Dioxide and without the use of chemical sunscreens or nano-particles
  • Travel-friendly plastic bottle
  • Comes with a pump
  • 21 shades

My shade is 1.2N – shown here.

I have a sample so I can’t show you the pumps which haven’t yet arrived in the UK. What I love about these is that the shades are adaptable which makes them ideal for online purchase. Even if you don’t manage to order exactly your shade, the technology means that shades that are near enough will blend into match. Very reassuring!

I wish I had managed to get a photo with all the rest of my makeup on, because the end result is absolutely lovely. It lasted really well all day and my skin looked fresh and glowy. It gave the impression of healthy, luminous, perfected skin without a made-up or cakey effect. I actually got compliments on how healthy and fresh my skin looked. Obviously, I loved that!

I have also tried the Serum Foundation which gives a similarly dewy, yet perfected finish and I love that one too, so stay tuned for a full review on that one too. I think this one suits my combination skin better and stayed nice and softly matte all day. The Serum foundation will be perfect for those with drier skins I believe.

  • Sounds like my dream foundation formula: decent coverage with a dewy finish… will be ordering the minute this goes in stock! x

  • Would you consider swatching The Ordinary foundations next to other foundations, so you can compare the shades? It’s hard knowing what shade to choose from The Ordinary, and it would be nice to be able to compare them 🙂

  • I’m NC42 shade in Mac foundation what color should I go for in the ordinary colors?

  • Hello! Thanks for the great review luv.

Do you happen to know if The Ordinary coverage foundation line really contain 50% pigment as some reddit posts claimed it to be? I would appreciate if you can confirm this.

    Tia!
