Musc Ravageur, Musc Ravageur, Musc Ravageur…..

You have to say it over and over again in your best French accent ideally – so sexy!

Editions De Parfums Frédéric Malle have released new products in their body line in the Musc Ravageur fragrance option, originally created by Maurice Roucel, in the form of a shower cream and a body and hair oil.

These products are luxe. Sheer Luxe in fact.

Frédéric Malle created Editions De Parfums in the year 2000 with the aim of composing exclusive, creative signature scents with some of the greatest noses in the world in a simple back to basics approach of substance over style that is respectful to clients and perfumers alike. Frédéric is not interested in the concept of transitory creations and the creative partnerships yield signature scents that pass the test of time. Musc Ravageur is one of those timeless fragrances.

Musc Ravageur is an iconic fragrance. Maurice Roucel has a fantastic nose and an amazing creative vision (and a great moustache in his time!). He created the beautiful masterpiece that is Musc Ravageur. The fragrance sits in the Oriental family, deceptively fresh top notes and sensual depths. This fragrance is musky, not in a synthetic way, sexy, spicy and dries down to become a real ‘neck nuzzler’. It is beautiful.

The Frédéric Malle Musc Ravageur composition is as follows:-

TOP NOTES: Lavender, tangerine and bergamot.

MIDDLE NOTES: Clove and cinnamon.

BASE NOTES: Gaiac wood, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, tonka and musk.

This is a sexy, heady fragrance and it is genderless. A ‘fragrance without sex’ that is utterly sexy on everyone.

The aesthetic of the packaging is classy. Black with cream lettering and a pop of red.

The shower cream has a twist top to decant the cream easily into your hand without having to remove the whole lid; this is great in the shower or bath and very practical.

The shower cream is rich, it does not foam a lot and has tiny bubbles which is a sign of good quality. I like to step out of the shower to apply this all over the body as I want it to stay on the skin as I massage it in to get the full benefits of the scent and the formula before I then rinse it off.

It gently cleanses the skin and it feels rich and moisturising. It does feel luxurious and left my skin beautifully scented, soft and supple.

The shower cream comes in a 200ml size and retails for £40.00. Incredibly indulgent! Find it here in the UK and here in the US.

Frédéric Malle Musc Ravageur Body and Hair Oil

The body and hair oil is housed in a beautiful, simple, black jar. It is reminiscent of an oriental vase and is so simple and striking to look at. Like a piece of art. Housed inside is the animalistic, sensuous concoction of the Musc Ravageur fragrance in a very fine oil. The stopper top allows just the perfect amount of oil to decant into the hand when you tip the bottle after removing the lid which has the EDP FM emblem on top.

The oil is lightweight and absorbs into the skin quickly, a bit like a dry oil.

Ways To Use The Oil

I have used the oil in a few different ways as I have tested it. I have applied it to a damp body just after a shower or bath. I have used a capful or two in bath water. I have used it as a hair mask pre-shampoo (although it is a shame to shampoo it out). I have applied it to wet hair through the mid-lengths and ends and I have applied it to dry hair sparingly through the mid lengths and ends after drying.

Used in all ways it is fantastic, not too heavy, not greasy, lightweight but gently moisturising and softening. I think my suggested ways to use it would be to apply it to a damp body after bathing/showering with the shower cream to lock in the moisture and to run a small amount through the mid lengths and ends of dry hair so you get the benefit of the scent in your hair too, as well as the smoothing properties. It is a wonderful multi-purpose oil and leaves a gentle sheen on limbs. I find the oil to be a softer version of the eau de parfum when worn alone or heightened when layered.

The body and hair oil comes in a 200ml size and retails for £115.00. Find it here in the UK and here in the US

Frédéric Malle Musc Ravageur Body Range Conclusions

I love it when a fragrance house brings out a body range as it gives customers options. Buying a body product at a cheaper price point can be a great way to treat yourself to a bit of luxury, additionally if you like layering like me then having a whole line of products in your favourite fragrance option is the perfect way to make your scent last longer.

This is the ultimate ritual for fragrance layering and it is such a decadent bathing experience. Cleansed with a rich shower cream, adorned with fine oil and then you can apply your fragrance on top or leave it with just the body products alone as the scent is strong. This is particularly true of the body oil, it melds with the skin and wafts through your clothes throughout the day to keep you smelling amazing. This is a beautiful quality, highly recommended ancillary line for Editions De Parfum Frédéric Malle.

Just be careful that people don’t start chasing you down the street, as you smell good enough to eat…!
