My nails have been in a terrible state since I was ill with shingles earlier this year, so the opportunity to try a new range of affordable nail treatments from Nail HQ wasn’t one I was going to pass up.
Available online and in-store and starting from just £5.99 there are nine products in the range. Each treatment is designed for a specific need and contains natural ingredients to nourish and keep nails healthy.
I was sent a selection of five to try these were:
- Cuticle Oil
- Gel Top Coat
Nail HQ Strengthener
Strengthener with coconut oil and keratin proteins is designed to help the weakest and softest nails become stronger. You can apply it like a base coat to clean and dry nails and then it has to be removed after 4-5 days and a fresh application reapplied. Find it here
Nail HQ Growth
Growth contains growth additives, keratin sympeptide and vitamin complex. These encourage and normalize nail growth. Application is on clean natural nails and can be used under colour, reapplication is weekly. Find it here
Nail HQ Hardener
Hardener contains vitamin B5, mineral complex with rice and soy protein and hydrolyzed collagen. This is targeting weak and thin nails. The treatment acts like a reinforcement preventing the fragile nails from bending as easily. It also helps prevent brittleness and splitting. Application is the same as the strengthener. Find it here
Nail HQ Cuticle Oil
Cuticle oil is essential for healthy nail growth and this one contains vitamins E and F and almond oil to provide deeply penetrating hydration. Application is as often as needed, ideally after most hand washes. A small bead is all that’s needed and this is applied to the cuticle (the skin around the nail bed in a “u”shape if you’re unsure) this bead should then be massaged into the cuticle and even the nail itself. Nail HQ Gel Top Coat
Gel Top coat has argan oil and Shellac for durability and longevity against chipping and therefore increasing wear time. It has a multi patented dual polymer self curing formulation and so doesn’t require a UV lamp. Find it here
I had such high hopes for these products based on the ingredients and claims. I tried all formulas and the cuticle oil over a 6-8 week period and unfortunately my nails haven’t achieved the strength I used to have. Now, having been ill I was putting them under quite challenging conditions I’ll admit. My nails are less bendy than they were, so I have seen a difference, but not as dramatic as I was hoping. Nails go through a growth cycle so in another 6-8 weeks they will probably be even better still.
For the price I would certainly suggest anyone trial them as all results differ from person to person so you may achieve quicker results than I have. It can be quite tricky to know which formula to select, so if unsure it would be worth running an internet search to try to establish your nail type. If in doubt I would probably suggest the strengthener as nails that are too hard can become brittle.
If you start a nail care routine now by summer you’d be able to see dramatic results, so why not give them a try? Find the full range here
