I have really been getting into my vanilla scents recently. Not the super sweet, old fashioned vanilla that often springs to mind, but an edgy, modern take on vanilla that is absolutely beautiful. The brand new Tom Ford Vanille Fatale Eau de Parfum, new to the Private Blend collection, is an absolute winner for me. Here’s what you need to know.
I think this is a really unique take on vanilla. It is raw yet sophisticated and very intriguing from the first spritz. There’s nothing sugar sweet about this. It is warm and smoky in a way that would work as well on a man as it would a woman. This is not to say it’s completely masculine.
It’s creamy and smooth and super sensuous. This is very wearable and not a loud fragrance. It settles into the skin very naturally. If you like your scents to stay close to your skin, this one could be for you.
Tom Ford Vanille Fatale Notes
- Top notes – saffron, coriander, myrrh and olibanum
- Heart notes – roasted barley, roasted coffee absolute, narcissus, frangipani,
- Base notes – Madagascan vanilla, mahogany, suede
The combination of vanilla and incense type notes works really well for me. It’s creamy but not sweet and has the perfect amount of earthiness to keep it interesting. The warm, woody base is made sexier with the addition of suede which gives it an animalic rawness.
I like this a lot. The only thing for me is that it stays a touch too close to the skin for me, and I like fragrances that are a tad more ‘in your face’, if you know what I mean. I kind of like my fragrance to say hello before I do, but I know that not everyone is the same. I have to spray quite a lot of this to get the effect I want, but if you like subtle and sophisticated, I recommend you give this a try.
